Battle

battle_page.jpg

“That's life on t' high skies, t' life o' a pirate, me lad! Battle be what we live for, bounty t' wages o' our trade! That's why it takes guts o' diamond t' be one o' us; you shoot at your target no matter t' odds, and sometimes you come up short. But that don't matter if you're good enough, 'cause at t' end o' t' day, you're t' top dog in t' skies. Think you have got what it takes, me lad?” - Don Giphin, Pirate Lord of the Blood Cutlasses

Prep your Ship, and man your BattleStations! Test your mettle as a Captain by pitting yourself against another Captain in Ship to Ship Battle!

pvp.jpg The Battle Page can be unlocked by Captains who have reached Level 11.

Azure Atoll, being the starting port of new Captains, therefore holds most Captains still below Level 11. Because of this, it is one of two Ports in Sios where Ship to Ship Battles are forbidden (the other being the Ancient Battlegrounds).
Therefore, if a Captain has reached Level 11 but has not travelled from Azure Atoll, he/she must therefore leave Azure Atoll to have the Battle Page be available.

Click on the Battle tab at the Main Page to access the Battle Page. Once there, the Battle Page will present a list of rival Captains whose Ships are currently floating in the current Port. Click on “Battle Now!” besides any Captain's entry to enter into Battle with that Captain!

The outcome of the Battle depends heavily on how an attacking Captain has set up his/her Ship in the Hangar beforehand, and how the Captain being attacked had his/her Ship set up.

Therefore, think carefully about the Weapons and Parts you're going to equip on your Ship before you initiate a Battle! It may be the difference between defeat and victory!

Similarly, when leaving your Ship unattended, consider what Weapons and Parts you're going to leave equipped on your Ship. Someone will come along to try and sink your Ship sooner or later, and a good defensive setup may help you turn the tables on your attacker!

You may choose between three tabs on the Battle Page to search for particular types of targets: Higher Level, Similar Level, and/or Lower Level to search for the corresponding kinds of Captains, with regard to yourself. The Search box on the right also allows you to type in keywords to search for a particular Captain you may wish to pinpoint.

Player versus player battles are not allowed in two of Sios' Ports:

  • Azure Atoll. This is to protect the new Captains starting their careers here from being harassed by more experienced Captains while still learning the ropes.
  • Ancient Battlegrounds. Sanctioned as the official Clan Wars arena by all the Nations of Sios, Battle is forbidden here to prevent opportunists from harassing Captains in the midst of Clan War.

Captains under “Protection Mode” cannot be targeted for player versus player battles.

Ship to Ship Battles offers some of the best Experience Points (EXP) and Gold returns, second only to Clan Wars. This is especially true if you are capable of sinking rival Captains higher in Level than you are, so if you are confident in your Ship's setup, you might try attacking them.

Daily Quick Battles also offer additional Gold rewards, so it is a good idea to log in at least once per day to attempt to fulfil the quota.

Daily Quick Battles

pvp_battle.jpg If a Captain wins 3 Ship to Ship Battles in one day, a Gold reward is awarded to the Captain. This quota resets every 24 hours at 0000hrs Sios Time.

How much Gold a Captain will get from accomplishing the quota depends on the current Level of the Captain.

Fishing

The term refers to a Captain displaying a “Damaged” status on the Attack Page, to lure other Captains into attacking the fishing Captain

This is done in the assumption that the fishing Captain can survive 3 Rounds of Combat, and sink the attacking Captain he/she is sunk him/herself.

This is typically done by Mechanics using Ships that have lots of Defense attribute points, and thus high HP and Armor. However, this is not necessarily always the case.

Speed

The minimum Speed achievable by equipping an Anchor-type Stabilizer is 50. This is regardless of how much more the Anchor would slow your Ship down by, if the minimum of 50 Speed had not been set.

The minimum possible Speed that can be achieved is 1. This can only happen if a Captain's Ship has been hit by a Weapon which has a slow-down effect.

The minimum Speed for a Rammer to hit the target on the first volley is 1.38x that of the defender, after considering the variable wind factor.

Protection Mode

  • For Captains who are less than Level 100: Protection Mode last for 12 hrs from the time the Ship has been Salvaged.
  • For Captains higher than Level 100: Protection Mode last for 6 hrs from the time the Ship has been Salvaged.
  • Once a Captain is out of Protection, he/she may be attacked by other Captains.

  • Once a Captain attacks another Captain or take part in Clan War (in either an Attacking or Defending capacity), that Captain will lose Protection status immediately.
  • Captains who initiate an Attack on an opponent Captain lose their Protection status immediately. This applies both in Battle and in Clan War.

The Combat Interface

combat_interface_captain_vs_captain350px.jpg The Combat Interface is a graphical representation of any Combat which a Captain has participated in, whether be by Attacking an opponent, or having to Defend against an Attacking Captain. The Combat Interface displays the outcome of the Combat through a playback, which can also be saved as Replays for future reference.

Whenever a Captain initiates one of the following events, the Combat Interface will load immediately:

  • The Captain has an Enemy Encounter during Exploring.
  • The Captain Attacks a rival Captain in Battle.
  • The Captain Attacks a Boss Monster or an Event Monster.
  • During Clan War, the Captain Attacks an enemy Fort and is met by a Clan Defender.
  • During Clan War, the Captain survives or does not meet a Clan Defender, and goes on to Attack the enemy Fort.

Whenever one of the following events happen, the Captain will be notified via the Captain's Log, and such notifications will have a link to the Combat as represented through the Combat Interface:

  • The Captain is Attacked by a rival Captain, and has to Defend in Battle.
  • The Captain has set him/herself as a Clan Defender during Clan War, and is met by an Attacking Captain.

Understanding the Combat Interface

combat_interface350px.jpg

  • The Attacking Captain is represented on the left side of the Interface, while the Defending Captain is represented on the right side. Combat in Battlestations! takes the form of the Attacker “chasing” the Defender.
  • The Captains involved in the Combat are represented at the top of the Interface, along with the current Hull Points (HP) of their Ships. During the Combat, the HP of both Captains will drop according to how much Damage the other Captain deals to their Ship. If the HP of either Captain drops to 0, that Captain's Ship is Sunk, and it counts as a victory for the other Captain who managed to Sink his/her rival.
  • The blue bar underneath the HP bar is slated to represent Crew Morale. The Crew Morale system is currently not implemented, and thus will have no effect on Combat at this time.
  • The center bar represents the progress of the Combat, and the relative distance between both Captains' Ships. Combat starts at 1000 yards, and this distance will change according to the Speed of the Ships and the Wind Factor.
  • The Combat Details section makes a record of everything that happens during Combat. This includes the Wind Speed during the Combat, any Skills that either Captain happens to have activated, and how much Damage each Weapon of both Captains deals to the other side.
  • At the end of the Combat animation, a Combat Summary will pop up, showing how much Gold and Experience Points (EXP) the Captain has gained from the Combat. The “Show Results” button will skip the entire playback of the Combat, and take the Captain straight to the Combat Summary.

How Combat Works

captain_vs_captain_preemptive_strike_350px.jpg

  • Combat takes place over 3 Rounds, which occurs when the Defending Captain reaches 300 yards, 600 yards and 900 yards respectively.
  • For every Round, the Attacking Captain gets to fire all his/her Weapons first, followed by the Defending Captain. However, if the Defender possesses and manages to activate the Soldier Skill “Preemptive Strike”, the order of fire is reversed; in other words, the Defending Captain gets to fire first in all Rounds.
  • The Distance between both Captains' Ships during Combat has a significant effect in every Round; it determines whether Weapons manage to fire in that Round. If the Distance in any given Round is greater than the Range of a particular Weapon a Captain has equipped on his/her Ship, that Weapon will not be able to fire that Round.
  • Apart from the Speed of both Ships in the Combat, the Distance between both Ships will also be affected by the Wind Speed. This random factor is why an Attacking Captain may sometimes fail to close the Distance between the same Defending Captain in different Combat instances.
  • If either Captain gets Sunk by the other at any point in the Combat, the Combat ends right there and then. If neither Captain gets Sunk within the 3 Rounds, the Defending Captain will manage to escape from Combat.

  • In either case, when the Combat ends, the Combat Summary will pop up, displaying the amount of Gold and EXP gained in the Combat. The “Save Replay” button will allow you to save the Combat, and access it at a later time through the “Replays” button on the Captain's log. The “Export Replay” button will generate a text code, which can be copied into a text file, and can be uploaded into the Replays page to run the Replay.
