Resource Exchange

“This here, Cap'n, 'zis where fortunes can be made, long as ye know how to play the game. Cap'ns like ye always be needin' material to build their ships and stuff with, and there's only so much they can get by minin' themselves. Others like me - and ye, if ye be so interested - we see da demand here, and we meet that demand. For a price, of course. Profit, Cap'n! S'what makes Sios go round!” - Samuel Campbell, CEO of Samcam Mining Corp

While a Captain can undertake mining operations to supply him/herself with the Resources he/she needs, it will often be the case that demand is greater and/or more urgent than supply can meet. Fortunately, the Resource Exchange provides a means by which Captains in need to quickly acquire the needed Resources, while allowing others to profit from the fruit of their labours.

In the Resource Exchange, Captains may put their Resources on auction in a common pool, while others may bid Gold in order to receive a share of the pooled Resources.

Basics of the Resource Exchange

The Resource Exchange will be unlocked for Captains who have achieved Level 40 or above.

Captains also have to pass Player Verification at a basic level to access the Resource Exchange.

The Resource Exchange can be found in the “Market” tab on the main navigation bar in the Main Page.
Upon entering the “Resource Exchange”, there will be an auction summary which will provide the following information:

  1. the time left to the end of the current Auction cycle.
  2. the status of the current Auction.
  3. the Auction history for the past 5 days.
  4. the amount of Resources the Captain currently possesses.

The Resource Exchange is divided into three common pools; the Wood Market, the Ore Market, and the Plasma Rock Market. To bid for or auction a particular Resource, a Captain may proceed to the relevant Market. Gold bid or Resources auctioned in a particular Market do not affect the outcomes of the other Markets.

Each Market will have a buyer listing which shows the current pool of bidders and the gold they bid each, and a seller listing which shows the current pool of auctioneers and the Resources they have individually put into the common auction pool. The buyer and seller listings can be useful information for gauging the current state of the Market.

Directly below the listing, Resources can be bid for or put up for auction in the relevant sections.

The auction in the Resource Exchange is resolved on 24hr cycles, at 00:00 Sios time. The top of the page displays a timer, which indicates the remaining time left until the Resource Exchange resolves. Any Gold and Resources bid or auctioned in the Resource Exchange is non-refundable, and frozen until the resolution of an auction cycle.

A message would be sent to the Captain's Log at the end of an auction cycle, informing the bidding or auctioning Captain of the results.

Detailed Workings of the Resource Exchange

During the course of the auction:

  1. sellers would indicate how much of a certain Resource they would like to put up for auction.
  2. buyers would indicate how much Gold they would be bidding for that particular Resource.

Resource Allocation

  • The “market share” is calculated using this formula ⇒ (amount of gold or resources an individual Captain committed) divided by (the total amount of gold or resources everyone in a Market committed)
  • Based on the “market share”, a Captain will be allocated his/her share of Gold or Resources.
  • Example: if the amount of Gold that a Captain bid in a Market accounts for 40% of the total amount of Gold everyone bid, that Captain would be allocated UP TO 40% of the resources which were on auction for that day.
  • Likewise, a person who auctioned 60% of the market share of Resources in a Market would receive UP TO 60% of all gold on bid.

Resource Exchange Tips

  • All bidding closes 1 hour before the auction.
  • The auction usually spans across 24hrs.
  • A Captain might get slightly less (only very slightly) than his/her “market share”.
  • The competition at the bottom tier of auction is quite intensive, and Captains bidding close to the minimum price might fail to win anything.
